iPhone Friday 06/22/2012

I am a terrible wife and did not get a picture of Chris with the girls ON fathers day. This one was taken just a few days before, so it will just have to be the official picture this year.

Emmy had fun riding go karts at Jackson's birthday this past Sunday. She waved hi everytime they made this turn.

Our littlest princess turned 3 months old this past week.

Fake/forced it begins

The girls hanging out and watching baby Einstein.

Nora's first Driller's game while Emmy sort the night in claremore. We didn't stay long, about the top of the 4th. Nora did great!

3 months {nora}

So as of the last monthly update, I had 13# to lose.  Happy to say that I have about 7-8 more to go to reach my pre-pregnancy weight.  The weight is coming off a little slower this time around, but I am definitely getting there.  I am starting to fit into a few non maternity items, so that's exciting.

Onto the real point of this post, the monthly update:

Eat: about 7 times a day (7am, 10am, 1pm, 4pm, 6pm, 7pm, 810pm).  Sometimes the 6pm feeding stretches to 630 and we drop the 7pm feeding.
Sleep: usually up by 645-7am and down by 830pm.  Nighttime and naps are spent in the cradle in our room still. The good restful sleep usually ends by 430-5am at which point I will go reinsert Nora's pacifier.  If she gets restless again then I usually put her in bed with us (to each their own, no judgment please).
Naps: random and each day is different.  Today she took a 3 hour nap.  Yesterday, she was good to get in a 45 minute nap.Shoes: Too hot to think about shoes.  I need to find some baby flip flops.
Clothes: anything from 3 to 6 months
Diapers: Size 2, but I have a feeling we won't be in this size long.
Trips: None!  But we did have some Indiana family visit over memorial day weekend.
Likes: looking at Emmy (pretty much always makes her smile), kicking her feet at objects or just at the air,  baths (this is her most active time of day), looking right and cocking her head left (we are working on this, we don't want the princess to have to wear a cranial helmet someday).
Dislikes: having a consistent sleep pattern from day to day (one day lots of napping, next day very little naps, and repeat), when Chris puts lotion on her after bath time, having to wait a long time for her nighttime bottle, gas drops (she acts like I'm giving her poison. Have you ever tasted those things?  They are so sweet like candy)
Milestones: Laughing out loud (she has a deep little laugh, completely takes after me on that one.  Sorry honey), grasp her rattle and I *think* she intentionally shakes it, pushing against elbows a bit when on tummy time on the boppy, sitting in the bumbo, she definitely turns her head to find our voice and smiles once she finds us.
Other: I think Nora was having issues with my dairy consumption, so I have eliminated that from my diet.  I don't think it was lactose intolerance, but a protein allergy.  Her congestion and gas seems to be better, but not all the way gone.  It's manageable, so I am going to leave my dietary exclusions as is: chocolate and dairy. I think we will move Nora into the guest room this weekend.  The girls will eventually share a room, but it takes Emmy SOOO long to fall asleep and she is SOOO loud while she is falling asleep.  Hopefully here in a few months Emmy will get it figured out.

We still think Nora is just the prettiest and sweetest little thing.  She is so easy in a lot of ways, but also a little more difficult than Emmy was in other ways.  I love watching the relationship build between the two sisters, there is already so much love there with so much more to come.

my girls, at 3 months.  I'm thinking they don't look much alike here.

May-June happenings.  See the photo with the feet?  Both girls LOVE to touch things with their feet.
They are just two peas in a pod.
And some Emmy things to close out the post:

  • About 80% of the time, Emmy is calling her daddy by name instead of "daddy", "dada", etc.  It is hilarious!!!
  • She also thinks her cousin Elyse's name is pronounced "Oh-leese".
  • The girl LOVES to sing.  This month she has really enjoyed singing "I'm in the Lord's Army", "Zaccheus" and "This Little Light of Mine".
  • Our nanny, Alex taught Emmy some color songs.  They are sung to tunes such as "Row Row Row your Boat", "10 little indians", "She'll be comin round the mountain", etc.  Well, tonight when Chris got home from work, Emmy wanted to sing some of these songs with him.  He started in on one song, got about 2 words into it, stopped singing and looked at me.  It was because he wasn't sure how to fit the words of the song to the associated tune.  He didn't even say "mama, please help" was just a look.  Well, Little Miss Observant is watching all of this and chimes in with "Daddy, why you need mama's help?"  She knew EXACTLY what was going on!  It was so stinking funny.

That says "Thunder Up"

Emmy and I were on a super important mission tonight, finding some Thunder gear.

Our first stop was Academy Sports and Outdoors (the right stuff, the right price....Academy!) At the 41st store, you are greeted by tons of Thunder paraphernalia at the front door. As Emmy and I were browsing the goods, she pointed to a pennant and said "that says Thunder Up". It did have the word Thunder on it, and she caught the attention of some bystanders who were quite impressed!

We were successful there in finding a cute romper for Nora and a Westbrook tee for the Emmers. The men's polo selection was a little weak so we decided to head over to Dillard's. Talk about a big time score. They had 3 or 4 different styles of polo shirts in all sizes. I narrowed it down to two then had Emmy make the final decision.

Then, and here's where I made a huge mistake, we headed over to the little girls section just to see what was shakin over there. Log story short, we left the store with a Thunder polo and a hello kitty purse.

If this shopping trip was any indication of future shopping trips with the eldest princess, then I am in some serious trouble.

May be time to go but some lottery tickets, just to fund the mall account.

"bop" and another funny

"Bop" has existed in our house for a few months. It spans from being in song lyrics, a name, or an answer to a question. It's most often a noun. It also makes its appearance the most when our eldest princess is feeling a little ornery.

Here are some uses of "bop":

When singing, "Mary had a little bop"

me: Emmy, what do you want for dinner? Answer: "bop"

Me: Emmy, please go put on your shoes! Response: "bop", while rolling eyes.

So we decided to ask Emmy about "bop" tonight.

Chris(or Christopher as she now calls him): "Emmy, what does bop mean"?
Emmy: "it just means bop"!!!

Wow, that one really helps. Now I completely understand the meaning.

Now onto the other funny. The other evening, Chris took the girls on a walk while I was at my company picnic (a whole other story on why I went solo). While out, they saw our neighbor driving his new convertible. She and Chris we're talking about it when I got home. The convo went something like this:

C: Emmy, tell mama what we saw tonight.
E: Mark's open car!
Me: oh wow, that's pretty neat, isn't it?
E:we don't have an open car? Why we not have one?
C: oh, mommy and daddy don't have enough money to buy one
E: you gotta get one! (said so enthusiastically and very convincing)

Since then, we have heard the phrase "you gotta get one" a few more times. I think she is going to be a gadget nerd. My little pride and joy.

This past week has FLOWN by!  I can't believe it's already been a full 7 days since some of my Indiana family was here.  Where has time gone?

My happy girls!  So thankful that our wonderful nanny, Alex, got this shot of the girls!  Oh the things that I miss out on while I'm at work.  Nora is just cranky by the time I get home.

Elyse and Emmy picking out their Hello Kitty donuts last Saturday.  They were a hot commodity.

Strumming the guitar at Elote's stand at the Cherry Street Farmer's Market.

Sweet Halle giving Nora bottle.  She's a bit more gentle than Emmy is with Nora!

Goodbye long hair! There's something about having a newborn that makes a person want to get rid of 11" of hair.

Hello new do!  And thank you Kendal (at Justus & Co 18th/Boston), you rock!

My sweet puffer cheeks. Wondering if she's going to be a hand/thumb sucker?

I'll say it again.  This week flew by way too fast!  I don't like how fast Nora is growing up.  In 11 days she will be 3 months old, how can that be?

Happy weekend to everyone.  We have a full plate.  Saturday include a trip to the farmer's market, going to see some baby moo cows, the Samson picnic at Driller's stadium.  If we survive Saturday then we have church, naps, swimming and Home Night on Sunday.  Phew.  I'm tired already just thinking about it.

...where I discuss Emmy's eczema...

Long story short we just found out Emmy has eczema.  I figured we were in the clear since we had made it almost 3 years with no skin issues to speak of.

When our biggest lil miss was diagnosed with asthma at 18 months, our dr assured us that she would probably grow out of it soon- especially because it wasn't accompanied by eczema.

But here are, almost 18 months after that diagnosis and my little princess has nasty, nasty eczema that makes her itch and feel pain.  Mind you, this is the girl that wipes out on the asphalt and doesn't complain about pain at all.  Yet having a dry itchy back causes her to express her pain =(  From what I can tell, the pool water really irritates her skin as does perfumed detergents.

So here's the lineup of products that we are currently trying.  Please comment with any helpful tips you have: diet, products, things to avoid, things to use lots of, etc.... The only other thing I have ever heard to use is Crisco.

Getting your money's worth

1 swimsuit, 3 summers.   I would say we got our money's worth out of this suit.  I love the first picture the most.  The muffin top, the chunky thighs, the ginormous head.......nothing I love more than sweet, chunky "little" babies.

iPhone Friday 06/01/2012

We have had a busy week this past week, which makes for a lot of pictures.

Me. No makeup. Bags under eyes.  Cute little girl on my lap.

Daddy and 2 of his 3 girls.  We need to get a male dog/fish/anything around the house for Chris.

Celebrating Pentecost at the Cambridge Presbyterian Church (Cambridge, KS).

I love this little country church.

Nora looks so tiny resting in Papa's arms.

Little model girl.

Some of my Indiana family and Kansas family came to visit, poor Hollis did not enjoy bath time with the triplets.  I have more pics of the girls in the tub, but need to edit out/cover some girly parts before posting.

Happy Friday all!  This has to be one of the best June 1st on record.  The windows are open, the girls are napping, and the rain is gently falling outside.  Thank you God for the rain.
