19 weeks {the last}

L to R: Emmy (18 weeks), Nora (19 weeks), Baby3 (19 Weeks)

Guess it's time to start doing updates for this pregnancy.  Now that I'm past the "nauseous all the time and only nauseous at night" phase, things are flying by.  Hard to believe this baby will be here in 21ish weeks.

  • Weight gain? Ugh, yes.  Every pregnancy I tell myself i'm going to do better in the weight department.  I'm up 13lbs as of this morning(19w1D)
  •  Stretch marks? None that I can see :)
  • Belly button? Starting to show.  It popped out with Nora at the very end and didn't quite return to it's normal.
  • Sex? Of baby?  Not interested in finding out.  The other kind?  Not interested in that either.
  • Cravings? Diet Coke and deli meat, terrible right?  But not much has tasted "good" this pregnancy besides those two things.
  • Latest hormonal outburst? I think I'm doing this better with hormonal outbursts.
  • Vomiting? Just a few times so far, all as a result from my gag reflex and brushing my teeth.
  • Feeling prepared? Yes and no.  We have all the gear, but I'd say it's a little early for nesting and feeling prepared.
  • Names? I think we've finally nailed down a boy and a girl name, but can't decide on a middle name for a girl.
  • Random pregnancy side effects? Being irritable, this has never happened before ;)
  • Maternity Clothes? Yes.  Although I've gained roughly the same amount of weight as previous pregnancies, my belly is so much bigger.
  • Work? Yes, will work up to D-Day.
  • Horrifying picture? No, b/c I'm pretty much a pro at not having pictures taken of my arms and face during pregnancy.
  • Funny for the week, or funniest comment from an "outsider" this week:  This has nothing to do with pregnancy, but had a coworker this morning get caught off guard because my hair was down and curled.  I'm pretty certain I could have held the Guiness world record for consecutive number of days of wearing a ponytail to work.

Improving my Granny Craft Skills

I've tried a few times to learn to knit, and I will practice for a few weeks, then I stop doing it and just forget.
I learned how to crochet as a child and I can go YEARS without touching a crochet needle, but it comes back to me when I do pick up the needle and a ball of yarn.  Knitting isn't the same.  So, here I go: my 5th+ attempt to learn to knit.  This post is for myself really, b/c I want a place where I can collect my knitting resources (also b/c some of these aren't "pinnable" on pinterest.

So, this site has awesome graphics and tutorials for the knit, purl, english knit and english purl.  Note to self: a stockinette stitch is just alternating a knit and purl!

Finally

We have been waiting so long.  Well, maybe not SO long.  But to us, it has almost felt like a lifetime.  Life has changed recently.  It's been a slow evolution, and I believe it's not done changing, but guess what?

Nora's time spent being happy is finally exceeding her grumpy time!!!!!

Tuesday night was as close to perfection as we have ever had.  I wanted to write this post right that moment, but of course that didn't happen.

Right now the girls' favorite show is the Elmo Christmas Countdown.  Nora started the show off by bellowing "Carol of the Bells" alongside Jennifer Hudson.  Not to be outdone by the little sis, Emmy then put her Ariel costume and high heels on and gave a dramatic (and slightly evangelical) presentation of "Do You Hear What I Hear", accompanied by Alicia Keys and Elmo.

The girls then proceeded to play, and wrestle, and play some more.

Now, Nora still has her times of squealing (with fear, definitely not delight) when Emmy comes charging at her.  And Emmy definitely still has her times of pouting and back talking- but at least we can add "enjoy one another's company" to the list of things that the girls are currently doing.

Now...If we could just get Nora to sleep in 15 minutes longer....

19 months {nora}

What changed for you when you had baby #2?  Or should I ask, what DIDN'T change?  That second question would probably have a much shorter list.

If you've been around this ole blog for awhile, you have already noticed that I haven't posted nearly as many monthly updates for Nora...whoops.  I've just been too busy fulfilling my roles as mediator, 2am baby-rocker, maid, chef, chauffeur, wife, sister, daughter, cynic and family historian.  Obviously- I'm doing a pretty crummy job on the last one.  I do have lots of pictures, just not very many stories.

So in celebration of Nora finally learning how to walk, *mostly* sleep through the night and not screaming every time she is told "NO"- I present to you her monthly update:

Here's what happened in the 19th month:

  • Because she won't let me get a close exam in, I can't really tell what all teeth are in, but she did gain her upper R molar
  • I don't even remember this now, but I have written on the calendar that she had the stomach but in late September- I'm sure that was lots of fun
  • (with assistance) counting to 3
  • Tries really hard to run and jump.  She just learned to walk around 15.5 months though, so walking is still being perfected
  • New words this month include, but are not limited to: coat, outside, ahhhh-bul (apple), call (chalk), mo (mole...b/c she finally found that mole on my neck), hawk (as in Jayhawk) and ock (sock)
  • Went "running" to her grandpa (Sanders) and said "Hi Grandpa", first time of combining 2 words
  • Still throwing tantrums.  We are either entering the terrible (which in hindsight with Emmy were the 'terrific') 2's early, or this is just a precursor to them.  Either way, we are in it for the long haul with this one!  You know that saying "You get what you get and you don't throw a fit"?  Well, if Nora could talk it would be "If you don't get what you want, then you hit, scream and scoot across the room on your back until your head runs into a wall or furniture.  That should teach your parents a lesson."
  • Took a trip to the Carmichael's pumpkin patch 10/12, I got ZERO good pictures of the girls together.
  • Favorite book is Barnyard Dance by Sandra Boynton.  She loves "stomping her foot", as stated in first line of the book.
  • Still very frustrated, but doesn't seem to be as sensitive to being told "NO".
  • Loves to shout "NO".  We sing "This Little Light of Mine" constantly to give her a cute outlet for that nasty "NO".
  • Hates to have her teeth brushed, as in, I pretty much have to pin her to the ground and restrain her arms.
  • Wears size 12-24 month clothing, size 5 shoe and size 5 diaper.
  • Will randomly tell us when she's poopy (and has been doing this for a few months)
  • Tries to say names of her classmates and teachers.  Can also give correct sound for common animals.
  • Love taking shoes to their rightful owners (I think big sis was infatuated with this as well)
  • At her 18 month appt, she measured in at just shy of 32" and weighed 25#.  That's about the same height as Emmy and 2# lighter.  She seems much more petite than Emmy did.
All in all, I hesitantly say that things are getting easier with Nora.  She still loves to throw a good tantrum, but she is starting to figure out better ways to communicate.  We can ask her yes and no questions and we also ask us to "show us" what she wants.

Here's to hoping she's a happy girl by 2 years old :)

Emmyism

"Daddy, since I'm your daughter and your princess- can I please have some of your drink?"- Emmy, age 4 years, 2 months, 6 days
